How to design and build an inexpensive Distributed File System (FrOSCon 2008)


This talk describes the basic foundations of distributed file system (DFS) and comparison among different free software solutions. The architectures presented, provide reliable file services in large distributed environment. The session will discuss our experience in this deployment and detailed information on performance, scalability and hardware requirement.

Rule Base Access Control (RBAC) on Samba Environment ( SambaXP 2008)


The case study shows how to use Rule Base Access Control (RBAC) on Samba Envirorment. The new alternative approach don't permit to give permissions directly, like Access Control List (ACL), but permits to acquire permits through role (or roles). The management of individual user rights is siplify because the administrator must assignes only the appropriate roles to the user. The presentation will cover also identity repository design (directory services DIT and user account attributes) and common problem in the RBAC approch.
